Meet Helen
My first experience of India was an overland expedition loop from Kathmandu, Nepal. We travelled from the mighty Ganges in Varanasi towards the vast deserts of Rajasthan, exploring central India's forests in search of wildlife. We dipped our toes in the Arabian Sea and travelled to India's southernmost point, before visiting the villages of Odisha, tea regions and hill stations on our journey north.
Along the way, elephants and camels were regular sights, alongside motorbikes crammed with people and trucks carrying enormous loads. I was awed by Jaisalmer's great fort rising from the desert like a giant sandcastle. I ate masala dosas on an overnight train to Goa, cycled around Puri and woke up early to watch the sunrise over the distant Himalayas from Darjeeling.
Every region is distinct, each with its own landscapes, traditions and way of life. That journey sparked a passion for India and ultimately led to the creation of Peacock & Banyan.
Today, I work with trusted local partners to create thoughtful, bespoke journeys that go beyond the obvious, helping others discover the India that first captured my imagination.
